Patio Perspective Podcast, hosted by Joshua Hebert, AKA Bam, is built around the power of perspective.
It is a place to slow down, listen, and ask deeper questions about life — not just what we believe, but why we believe it; not just what we do, but what shaped us to do it. It is about challenging the lenses we inherited, examining the identities and assumptions we carry, and becoming willing to see life from angles we may have never considered before.
The conversations can move through faith, spirituality, religion, identity, parenting, culture, healing, recovery, purpose, relationships, psychology, behavior, justice, community, success, failure, and the everyday experiences that shape the way we see ourselves and one another. But the topics are not the point. The perspective is.
Because everything and everyone has deeper layers than what we see on the surface, and no single version of a person throughout their journey tells the whole story of who they are, what shaped or conditioned them, or who they may still become in service to the Kingdom of God.
Why do we divide ourselves by race, class, politics, religion, neighborhoods, status, or background?
Why do we defend labels before we even stop to ask what those labels actually mean?
Why do we sometimes fear cultures we have never taken the time to understand?
Why are we so quick to argue our position and so slow to understand the person standing on the other side of it?
The goal is not to make everybody think alike. Unity does not require uniformity. We can disagree and still listen. We can hold different beliefs and still respect one another. We can walk into somebody else's world without needing to conquer it, judge it, or become it. Sometimes understanding begins simply by being willing to sit down, hear another person's story, and look at life through a lens other than our own.
And the goal is bigger than self-improvement.
It is about becoming better for one another. Better parents. Better sons and daughters. Better neighbors. Better leaders. Better listeners. Better human beings. It is about raising the next generation with more understanding than we inherited and leaving something healthier for generations we may never live long enough to meet.
The Patio is where I will ask questions, paint perspectives, challenge opinions, and seek to bring us all to a place of growth. We are not and will never be perfect people, we wi1l not always agree, and we don't have to have all the answers.
Just a willingness to pull up a chair, look a little deeper, and consider that changing the world might begin with changing the way we see it.
